Vic started wrestling at his father's gym at about 9 years of age, and took to it straight away. This was not surprising, as his dad was heavyweight champion of Great Britain, having also successfully competed in the 1908 Olympic games. Coleman senior wrestled professionally as 'Bull Coleman'.

On 6th August 2011, at the age of 91, Vic agreed to share his memories of a career in professional wrestling in a wide-ranging chat, recorded here for posterity.

ACTION PHOTOGRAPHS

1. Vic took part in lots of bouts and was rated by the USA's Ring magazine as the world's fifth best welterweight. He carried on wrestling until the outbreak of the Second World War, when he joined the Royal Air Force. His career resumed, and blossomed again, after the war.

2. In March 1951, Vic emerged victorious from a star-studded, hard-fought tournament to be crowned the Middleweight Champion of the British Empire.
