FAQ

(Frequently Asked Questions)

Q1: I'd like to know the whereabouts and wellbeing of one of the featured wrestlers. If he's still around, how is he, what is he doing now, and how can I contact him?

As explained on the home page, this site is run purely as a hobby. I attended wrestlers' reunions for several years, and was privileged to be introduced to, and to chat with, some of the wrestlers, but I am not from a wrestling background, and am not in regular contact with them. This website is an unofficial tribute site. For more up-to-date information on the wrestlers, the excellent Wrestling Heritage website is updated regularly with news and discussion forums.

Facebook is another good source of recent information. Some groups are 'members only'. You can apply to join if you have something to contribute or especially if you are from the 'wrestling fraternity' yourself. Here are just a few of them:

Q2: Who owns the copyright for pictures on this site?

The Wrestling Furnace Picture Gallery is a free-to-view, non profit-making site. Its aim is to revive memories of the spectacle of 'classic' British Professional wrestling for as wide a readership as possible. Pictures may be copied for your own personal use, but if you want to put them on your website or publish them in any way, please have the courtesy to ask Chris, the webmaster, at furnacehot@gmail.com, and make some reference to The Wrestling Furnace Picture Gallery.

Many of the photographs on this site have been scanned from the now defunct "The Wrestler" magazine. Please be aware if you are planning to use any of the photographs for commercial purposes, that someone, somewhere may claim ownership of copyright. Other pictures were gathered from the internet, or sent in by the wrestlers themselves, or by their families.

Q3: Are there any Wrestlers' Reunions, and can I attend?

The original and largest British Wrestlers' Reunion (also known as the Southern Reunion) was held for many years at Bill (Wayne) Bridges' pub near Dartford in Kent on the second Sunday of every August. It was open to everybody; wrestlers, their families and fans alike. Sadly, Bill and his partner Sarah, and also Frank "Mr Reunion" Rimer and life president Joe D'Orazio have all now passed away, so this reunion is no more.

A new version of the 'Southern Reunion' emerged, but this is currently in abeyance.

Further details may be found on Facebook at
The Original Southern Wrestlers Reunion Ltd - Est: 1991

There are, however, several reunions held around the country for wrestlers, their families and invited guests only:

The Leeds Wrestlers Reunion is held twice yearly, organised by "Tarzan Boy" Darren Ward and Peter Thompson (Steve Fury).
See their Facebook page at Leeds Wrestlers' Reunion

The Wrestlers Reunion Scotland is held annually in Ayrshire, and attended by wrestlers from around the UK.
See their Facebook page at Wrestlers Reunion Scotland

Another Reunion is held annually in Blackpool.

For further details, see the North of England Wrestlers Reunion Facebook page, contact "Hack" at the Wrestling Heritage website or see the Heritage forums.

Q4: I have some pictures of British professional wrestlers. Can I send them to be included on the site?

Posed and action photographs of British professional wrestlers are always welcome for inclusion on the site. An acknowledgement will be given to all contributors, unless requested otherwise. Photographs should be in as large a filesize as can be comfortably emailed, as they can always be 'scaled down' by the webmaster, but cannot be easily 'scaled up', without losing quality. Please e-mail to furnacehot@gmail.com. Ideally, pictures should be fullscreen (something like 1600 pixels wide or 1100 pixels high on a computer monitor), but this is by no means essential, and should not put you off sending anything in.

Q5: I am a former professional wrestler, or am related to one. How can I (or my relative) be featured on this site?

Wrestlers and their families are very welcome, and indeed very much encouraged, to contribute to the site. Photographs, newspaper and magazine articles, anecdotes, programmes, posters or any other memorabilia, which might be of interest to other readers, can be sent in. Please contact Chris, the webmaster, if you have any such material, even if it is currently only in 'hard copy' form. Some arrangement can be made to enable it to be scanned or photographed. Please e-mail furnacehot@gmail.com

Q6: Can 'classic' British Professional Wrestling still be seen today?

Classic British Professional Wrestling, was shown on ITV's "World of Sport" on Saturday afternoons in the 1970s and 80s. Sadly, this coverage ended in 1988 after a few years of ITV watering down the show by including American wrestling, and the transmission time being changed from its traditional 4pm slot. After that, the Welsh Channel 4 (S4C) continued to broadcast matches for a few years, with many of the World of Sport wrestlers involved. The programme, called Reslo (with commentary in Welsh), featured local champion Orig Williams. Many World of Sport and Reslo matches can now be seen on YouTube. Here are just a few of the YouTube accounts in which it can be found:

Q7: I'd like to see if other wrestling enthusiasts can answer my questions or share experiences or reminiscences with me. How do I contact them?

There is currently no discussion forum on this site. However, there are discussion forums on the Wrestling Heritage website, covering many aspects of British Professional Wrestling. There are also Facebook groups on this subject (see links in reply to Question 1).

Q8: How do I report a broken link or other fault?

If you would like to report a fault with any part of this website, e.g. a link not working or some incorrect information, please send an e-mail to Chris at furnacehot@gmail.com. Your help in maintaining the site will be much appreciated.
